Bandhavgarh Zones and Tigers

Bandhavgarh tiger reserve located in Vindhya hills of Umaria district is home to one of the majestic felidae species known as Bengal Tiger. The Bengal tiger is a tiger from a specific population of the panther tigris subspecies that is native to the Indian subcontinent. The park is known to have World’s highest density of Bengal tiger 

In Bandhavgarh there are 3 core zone & 3 buffers, the total area of 1200 sq km is a home ground of over 50 tigers at present. 



Inside the park there are 12 natural water holes which is a treat 

TALA ZONE- The renowned and most visited safari zone in Bandhavgarh is Tala entry gate. This is also the place where Bandhavgarh fort is located. The Shaih Shaiya, or a large statue of lord Vishnu reclining on a seven- hooded serpent, positioned in a green pool of water, is assumed to be the source of the Charanganga River. The topography consists of rocky mounds emerging abruptly from swampy, thickly wooded valleys& dense bamboo growth. Big meadows like chakradhara, the marshland like Sidhababa is in this zone. 

At the entry & exit points you will find 2 attentions -grabbing sign posts. At the entrance says, “Dear friends, my sighting in wild is a matter of chance….I request you to enjoy this park in its total wilderness.” & at the exit point, “Perhaps you may not have seen me but please don’t be disappointed. I have seen you. 

Even today this place basks in the glory of SITA & CHARGER, perhaps the most photographed tigers of the park. Visit this zone to feel their presence.

MADHAI ZONE- Magdhi entry gate in Bandhavgarh has a lure of its own recorded beautiful sighting in last few years. Magdhi gate adjoins Tala gate and is situated on the periphery of the park having offers the scenic flora and fauna. This zone delights the enthusiasts with its pristine beauty ----- the mixture of dense forest & meadows, the mix vegetation of Sal &Savannahs makes this an adobe of spotted deer, Sambhar deer, Barking deer, Indian Gaur & Jungle Cat.

KHITAULI ZONE- The best thing about Khitauli zone is that the higher density of tigers resides in this part of the forest & the influx of new tigers for territory, happens from the buffer area adjoining it.

DHAMOHAR ZONE- Dhamokhar gate in Bandhavgarh is becoming one of the preferred zones for Bandhavgarh jungle safari. Great sightings have been recorded in the past, though it is considered aspart of buffer zone, but is visited, while Tala, magadhi, Khitauli are booked. 

PANPATHA ZONE- Panpatha gate in Bandhavgarh borders Khitauli gate and is the second gate in buffer zone after Dhamokhar and is scenic. The entrance of Panpatha gate is via Pachpedi and at times there have been Tiger sightings. (Sukhi, Rajbehrabacchi & Jhoomri are often sighted at these zones)

JOHILA ZONE- Johila gate in Bandhavgarh is the third and the last gate amongst the buffer zones and the entrance of Johila gate is via Cheshpur/Gajwahi. Cheshpur Water Fall in Johila Streamis a must visit once during your Bandhavgarh Package tour

Yet the tiger is not the only attraction in Bandhavgah , Others fauna such as Leopard, Sambhar, Barking deer, wild boar, Gaur, Chausingha , Sloth Bear, Ratel, Grey Mongoose, Striped Hyena, Jungle Cat, Dhole & Small Indian Civet quiet abundant in all zones

For birdwatchers, the place is a veritable source of attraction with common sighting that includes species like Egrets, lesser adjutant stork, Sarus crane, Crested Serpant Eagle, Brown fish owl, kingfisher & Vultures. For more alert observer, the Small Indian Civet, Gray Mongoose, along with Reptiles like the Cobra, Indian rock Python, Krait, Rat sanke & Vipers are ready to oblige.
